FAQ
Getting the right advice is essential
Remember; it is your precious possessions that you are moving so do insist on choosing a shipping company to Canada from the UK you feel you can trust.
Will my furniture be safe & secure?
We have customs approved bonded warehouse with CCTV camera so once your shipping has been collected, the consignment will be safe and secure whilst we build our next shared / groupage service. All your possessions will be professionally handled by our own staff. We are a proud member of the Canadian mover’s association as well as various International Associations, our staff are trained to exacting standards.
What are the costs of shipping to Canada from the UK?
Our quotations are based on volume, and we can tailor made to suit your needs and requirements. We will provide you with a written quotation outlining the services offered and our contract conditions and exclusions. Prices will vary depending on the volume and the nature and size of the furniture you are looking to ship.
Do you provide export wrapping service?
Yes we can provide you with a qualified international export wrapping service by trained professionals, our staff will carefully export wrap the furniture with a bubble blanket which is designed specifically for the protection of all types of furniture during transit and storage. Softline bubble blanket offers not only the versatility of bubble on a roll abut provides greater flexibility and reduces waste compared with other traditional forms of furniture protection. With the tissue being slightly absorbent it can be not only used for furniture but has many other uses and be specifically used for packing and wrapping ceramics and leather and all types of wood furniture.
How long will it take to arrive?
Generally, with an international shipping service to Canada approximately 6/10 weeks based on a groupage / shared service depending on Final destination. Full exclusive use containers approx. 3/6 weeks depending on port of entry and destination. By liaising with your Move Manager, it may be possible to reduce or increase these delivery times so that they fit in with your travel arrangements.
How long is the removal quote valid for?
Our quotation is valid for 28 days; this is due to the nature and vagrancies of international shipping which can be affected by currency fluctuations and increase in ocean and air freight costs.
Is any VAT applicable on removal services?
For international removals VAT is not applicable for overseas move, VAT is only applicable on UK domestic removal services I.e., storage, or ancillary services like handyman or external liftings or hire of specialised equipment.
What if I require storage prior to shipping?
At Relo UK we have a fully customs bonded warehouse, which is alarmed and fitted with CCTV cameras for added security, whether it is for a short period whilst in transit, or for a longer term, we are able to offer you with a competitive storage cost, prior to your shipping service to Canada.
Do you offer groupage (shared) container services for smaller consignments?
Groupage (Shared) service is the economically recognised method of shipping for smaller volume moves as you are saving money by sharing costs. Your household effects are loaded into a shared container with other ReloUK consignments bound for the same geographical destination as soon as sufficient volumes are available; this way you only pay for the container space utilised. As one of the largest groupage container operators in the UK we are able to offer frequent sailing dates on all major routes to Canadian capital cities.
Can you provide Insurance Cover?
Whilst great care is taken during the removal of your furniture, we will do everything possible to ensure your possessions arrive safely, Insurance is a way of managing risks. When you buy insurance, you transfer the cost of a potential loss to the insurance company.
A transit proposal form will be provided with all our quotation extended. We advise you to read the information carefully; if there any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to ask.
When my shipping has arrived in Canada what happens next? Do I need a delivery address before it arrives?
Upon arrival in Canada either as an immigrant or returning citizen you must report to Canadian Immigration that there are goods to follow to obtain the B54E declaration form, I.e., Shipments must be declared to Customs at the port of entry (POE) (airport/U.S-Canada border). Customs will then issue documents needed for Customs clearance:
BSF186 personal effects accounting document
BSF715 casual goods accounting document.
The owner of the goods must present a list of items to be imported. It is recommended that a copy of the packing list / inventory be hand carried for presentation to Customs. Customs may request a value on the shipment (returning citizens).
Customs Clearance Procedure once consignment has arrived at port, is that you the client (owner of the shipment) are required to report in person to custom house to clear the shipment (normally a representative from our office in Canada will advise beforehand and meet you at the customs office). Shipments destined for areas/cities outside the main port of entry cities will be moved under bond to the closest bonded facility to the consignee’s delivery address so that you the client can clear at a local customs office.
Please note as the client you must have residence status in Canada in order for the shipment to clear.
Once customs formalities have been completed, we will require delivery address
Will there be additional charges to pay?
Quotation extended will be based on a door-to-door service and will included terminals and custom clearance formalities, what is not included in our quotations are customs inspection fees, any customs duty or taxes on new goods are goods that do not meet the unaccompanied effects ruling.
Payments and Deposits?
On booking of your shipping, we will take a 15% deposit to secure your nominated collection date, once your shipment has been collected, we will provide you with a final balance invoice which will be in accordance with our trading terms we will respectfully request that we receive payment of the invoice within 72 hours of it being issued.
